BERITATOP - A female employee of PT Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI) South Sulawesi Area named Melati (a pseudonym) claims to be a victim of alleged verbal sexual harassment by her superior in the workplace.

The incident is said to have occurred at the BSI South Sulawesi Area office located on Jalan Dr. Ratulangi, Makassar City, and was witnessed by several colleagues who were present at the time.

According to the victim's account, the incident began when the area leader asked for the reason for her leave request.

Melati explained that the leave was to undergo a pregnancy program as advised by her doctor.

“He asked why I wanted to take leave. I replied that it was to undergo a pregnancy program as advised by the doctor,” said Melati when recounting the chronology of the event as reported by the Instagram account @teropongmakassar, Monday, June 22, 2026.

However, this answer, according to the victim, was met with a response that was considered sexually suggestive and inappropriate for a professional environment.

“Can your husband not get you pregnant? If your husband can't, there are many here who can get you pregnant,” said Melati, imitating her superior's words, which were allegedly spoken in front of several colleagues.

The victim considers these words to have degraded her dignity and caused serious psychological distress.

She admitted to experiencing shame, pressure, and a loss of motivation to work after the incident.

“I felt harassed, pressured, and ashamed. Those words keep replaying in my head. As a result, I lost my motivation to work, and even the pregnancy program I had planned became chaotic due to the mental burden I experienced,” she revealed.

Melati hopes that the BSI management at the central level will give serious attention to the report she has submitted.

She requested an objective investigation into the alleged violation and firm sanctions if the actions are proven to be inconsistent with company ethics and rules.

“I hope for serious attention and handling so that incidents like this do not happen again to other employees,” she said.

Meanwhile, the alleged perpetrator, identified by the victim as Patria, the Head of BSI South Sulawesi Area, has not yet responded to the accusations.

As of the publication of this news, there has been no official statement from BSI management regarding the alleged verbal sexual harassment reported by the female employee. (*)
